Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteerism is at the heart of synagogue life, and here at Beth Sholom, we could not fully function without a strong cadre of volunteers.    Below is a list of volunteer opportunities.  Please consider helping us out with one or more of these activities by getting in touch with the contact person listed:

Minyan Attendees

Minyan

Our tradition requires 10 adults be present to say certain prayers, including Kaddish for a deceased relative.  We count men, women and all post Bar/Bat Mitzvah teens in our minyan.   Please consider making the committment to come to just one regular minyan per week to help reach that magical number 10.  If you live close by and are willing to come to shul on notice when we are in need, please contact Ron Holzer, who will put you on our minyan call list.

Shabbat Greeters:

Shabbat Greeter

We are looking for people willing to welcome members and guests to our shul on Saturday mornings during Shabbat Services.   You will need to be in the front lobby of the synagogue by 9:30am where you will hand out our Shabbat Sholom handout to each worshipper as he/she arrives.  If needed, you can also direct people to head coverings and talit.   You should be able to join services between 10:15am and 10:30am for the Torah Service.  If you are interested in being a greeter, please contact Dot Bilsky.

Kiddush Hostesses:

Office Help

Every Saturday morning after Shabbat services, we come together for Shabbat luncheon in our Social Hall.  We need volunteers each week to serve our already prepared meal and then to clean up at the end of Kiddush.  If you are interested in assisting, please contact Sharon Finkelstein.

Archivist:

Archivist

We are currently looking for volunteers to help organize our archives and prepare them for transport to a special storage facility of the Jewish Historical Society of Memphis and the Mid South housed at Temple Israel.

Programming Committee Member:

Programming Committee

We are always looking for creative people who are willing to work on the Beth Sholom Programming committee.  This committee plans and executes all of the major programming that goes on in the shul.   Contact Illysa Wertheimer if you can help

Beth Sholom Shopper:

Shopper

Occasionally we need people to make local shopping runs for supplies for programs and Kiddush.   If you would like to assist on an as need basis, please contact Myra Alperin.

Kitchen Helper

Kitchen Help

Do you like to cook or to bake?  Do you have wonderful recipes that you enjoy sharing with others?  Are you handy with a butcher’s knife or a spatula?  If so, you might want to consider becoming a Beth Sholom Kitchen Helper.   We are always in need of people to help Claudia prepare Kiddush luncheons, to bake for future events, or to be on call to man the grill for a Beth Sholom Cookout.   If you enjoy spending time in the kitchen, please contact Myra Alperin.
