“For I have selected him so that he may instruct his children and his posterity after him to keep God's ways: to do what is just and right." (Genesis 18:19)
At Beth Sholom, education isn’t just for kids, and Shabbat morning is for everyone!
Each week, Beth Sholom’s Shabbat is filled with learning experiences of all kinds, for all ages and stages! Come and experience it!
Beth Sholom Religious School meets on Shabbat morning from 9:00-11:30. Three different classes meet on Saturday mornings with the great teaching staff of Kallie Brown, Maya Sharabi, Ruth Samuels and Penina Hoffnung. Shabbat learning includes Hebrew and Torah, holidays and Jewish values. Junior Congregation is an integrated part of the learning experience. Our students get to practice their Hebrew by using it in an immediate and relevant way. They get to practice their synagogue skills in the comfort of their own peer group. Junior Congregation meets every week from 10:30-11:25. Open to all children in 1st through 6th grade, Junior Congregation’s goal is to create a spiritual experience that’s developmentally appropriate for children, while giving them the opportunity to learn about the traditional Shabbat morning service. Children have the opportunity to fully participate in the service, and get the chance to lead parts of the service. Games, movement, songs and stories are a part of the experience. Significant grown ups can attend.
Mini Minyan For children from birth through Kindergarten age and the grown ups who love them. Mini Minyan meets every other week, on the second and fourth Shabbatot of the month from 10-10:45! It’s a singing, moving, story-telling playful, prayerful introduction to Jewish prayer experience!
Torah Trope Club For all students, 5th grade and up who want to learn how to chant Torah, with the amazing Danny Schaffzin. Learn the secrets that turn those squiggles into Torah melodies. Once you get some mastery, get some real-life experience chanting at Junior Congregation!
Monthly Mishpachah On the second Shabbat of every month, there’s a special intergenerational celebration of learning. Each month’s interactive learning has a different theme. If not a Religious School family, certain fees apply for participation in this program so check the calendar and make a plan to join us! Babysitting Want to experience Shabbat services as an adult? Babysitting is available every Shabbat morning under the experienced, warm, and nurturing care of Miss Susan Alexander Gross.
Starbucks Shabbat An adult-oriented Jewish learning session, with a little sweet nosh, happens the first Shabbat morning of the month, beginning at 9:00 a.m. till 9:55.
